Joseph Runnels, CFA, is vice president, portfolio management of INTECH. Mr. Runnels joined INTECH in June of 1998 from QED Information Systems, a software development company providing portfolio management and investment accounting systems. Mr. Runnels spent six years prior to that in portfolio management for the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System in their fixed income investment division. Mr. Runnels holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Murray State University. Mr. Runnels has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Adrian Banner, Ph.D., is chief executive officer and chief investment officer of INTECH. Dr. Banner was named chief executive officer in November 2012 and concurrently is the firm’s chief investment officer, a position he has held since January 2012. He joined INTECH in August 2002 and since that time has been an integral part of the firm’s Princeton-based research team. In 2009, he was named the firm’s co-chief investment officer.Prior to being named CIO and subsequently CEO. He is also a member of the Janus Capital Group Global Allocation Committee.

Vassilios Papathanakos, Ph.D., was named INTECH’s deputy chief investment officer in November 2012. Prior to that, he was the firm’s director of research, based in Princeton, N.J. As deputy CIO, Dr. Papathanakos is jointly responsible, with Dr. Adrian Banner, INTECH’s chief executive officer and chief investment officer, for the day-to-day implementation of INTECH’s investment process and trading operations; a natural extension of what he’s been doing for some time. Drs. Banner and Papathanakos have worked together during the past few years to implement INTECH’s investment process, research, new products and enhancements to INTECH’s process. They will continue collaborating on those items and jointly manage INTECH’s investment team consisting of five Ph.Ds. Before joining INTECH, Dr. Papathanakos received his Ph.D. in Physics from Princeton University in November 2006 and earned a B.S. in Physics from the University of Ioannina, Greece, in July 2001. In parallel, Dr. Papathanakos has accumulated a long teaching experience, instructing courses in all undergraduate and graduate levels, assisting in the development of new courses and coaching new teaching assistants. As recognition of this, he received an Excellence in Teaching award in 2004 from Princeton University.

Phillip Whitman, Ph.D., is director of research of INTECH, based in Princeton, N.J. Prior to joining INTECH’s research team, Dr. Whitman received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Princeton University. Dr. Whitman works with INTECH’s mathematicians and physicists on the application of mathematics in portfolio construction using probability theory, data analysis and other fields in pure and applied mathematics. While enrolled in the Ph.D. program, Dr. Whitman earned the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, one of the nation’s most prestigious research fellowships awarded to young scientists. Dr. Whitman received his B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin. While at the University of Texas he was a recipient of the National Science Foundation VIGRE grant, which provides funding for independent original mathematical research by undergraduate students.
